The Federal Reserve Bank of New York's Research & Statistics Group needs to conduct policy-oriented academic research and provide analytic support for the Bank's responsibilities relating to monetary policy, monetary policy execution, banking supervision, payments systems, and other economic and financial issues. This internship aims to provide undergraduate sophomores with valuable work experience and contribute to meaningful work that impacts all Americans.
Requirements
- Experience using large databases and statistical packages like SAS, Stata, Mat lab and Python
- Programming in statistical packages such as SAS, STATA, and MATLAB
- Experience in data analysis and using statistical packages (e.g., R, Stata, Matlab, Julia, SAS, Gauss, TSP, RATS, EViews, PROCSQL), or other computer programming experience (e.g., Java, C++, Python).
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint
- Solid analytical abilities
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Acrobat.
Responsibilities
- Assist economists and research associates in the analysis of current public policy issues and events.
- Assist economists and research associates in long-term, academically oriented research projects.
- Conduct econometric analyses intended for Bank publications as well as academic journals.
- Programming in statistical packages such as SAS, STATA, and MATLAB

- Must have an expected graduation date of Winter 2026 or Spring 2027
- An interest in banking, finance, business, economics, or public policy with a strong academic record
- Interpersonal and collaboration skills, including the willingness and ability to foster working relationships with a range of stakeholders
- Written and verbal communication skills with the ability to synthesize information and explain it clearly
- Organized and resourceful, with the ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Ability to assimilate new information and learn new tools/systems
- High interest in Finance, Banking, or Economics, with a strong academic record and a passion for public service.
- Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- This position requires access to confidential supervisory information (CSI) and/or Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) information. Access to CSI and FOMC information is limited to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, individuals who meet the definition of “protected individual” under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), and certain other nonimmigrants.
