The UCF IT department within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire a Systems Engineer IV – AI Automation Designer to serve as part of the university’s AI Center of Excellence, embedding with administrative teams to design, implement, and promote AI-enabled process automations and workflows. The position exists to deliver automation solutions, establish repeatable patterns, and provide training for staff on the responsible adoption of AI, ensuring alignment with university governance and compliance standards.
Requirements
- 2+ years demonstrated experience designing, developing, and deploying automation solutions using low-code RPA platforms (e.g., Microsoft Power Automate) and scripting languages such as Python.
- 1+ year hands-on experience with AI/ML technologies and platforms (e.g., Azure OpenAI, Azure Machine Learning).
- Strong understanding of automation design principles, workflow orchestration, and process optimization.
- Knowledge of governance, privacy, and security considerations related to AI and automation.
- Familiarity with building reusable automation patterns, playbooks, and agent templates for enterprise deployment.
- Experience with large language models (LLMs), intelligent agents, and responsible AI frameworks.
- Professional certification, such as Microsoft Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204) preferred, demonstrating proficiency in developing, deploying, and maintaining cloud-based applications and AI-integrated solutions within the Azure environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy automation solutions using low-code RPA tools (e.g., Microsoft Power Automate), Python scripting, and AI/ML capabilities in Azure (e.g., Azure OpenAI, Azure Machine Learning).
- Create reusable playbooks, agent templates, and modules (e.g., FAQ agents, tool-invoking agents, knowledge bots) for replication across departments.
- Support deployment, testing, and rollout of AI/agent workflows, including logging, error handling, fallback strategies, and quality assurance.
- Partner with members of the AI Center of Excellence and administrative teams to identify and design high-impact automation opportunities that deliver measurable business value.
- Act as an AI evangelist by showcasing successful pilots, building awareness, and promoting responsible AI adoption across the university.
- Train, consult, and mentor developers and departmental champions in building and extending AI workflows using gateway/MCP tooling, low-code platforms, and other patterns.
- Ensure adherence to governance, privacy, and security standards in all AI deployments.

- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 9 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to partner across various administrative and technical teams.
- Background in training or mentoring others in automation and AI workflow development.
- Strong consultative and evangelism skills with the ability to promote the adoption of new technologies.
- Familiarity with Microsoft, Azure, or other enterprise-scale cloud environments in higher education or complex organizations.
