ORNL requires an AI Developer to design, develop, and deploy AI/ML tools and analytics to enhance business operations and scientific decision-making, focusing on Microsoft Azure and related AI cloud technologies.
Requirements
- Experience with Microsoft CoPilot, OpenAI tools and API’s for GPT creation, Hugging Face, LangChain, Large Language Model’s, Generative AI or similar tools.
- Experience creating AI solutions like Azure AI Foundry, MS Azure Open AI Studio, Azure SQL, and Open Source LLMs like Meta's LLama family.
- Prior demonstrated AI/ML development and deployment in independent cloud and on-premise environments including requirements gathering, design, and deployment of reporting solutions.
- Understanding of multidimensional and tabular modelling, vector databases, Graph DB.
- Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code, Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow.
- Knowledge of current ORNL business processes and applications (or similar) is a bonus.
- Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint technologies is a bonus.
Responsibilities
- Development and support of models utilizing AI/ML and Microsoft Azure related Power apps, including CoPilot Studio.
- Analysis of emerging trends and technologies to provide recommendations for roadmaps and AI strategy. This includes Generative AI and ML techniques and solution methods. LLM/GPT CI/CD pipelines and diagnostic monitoring for clients or set up for client self-monitoring.
- Experience creating AI solutions like Azure AI Foundry, MS Azure Open AI Studio, Azure SQL, and Open Source LLMs like Meta's LLama family.
- Experience with Microsoft CoPilot, OpenAI tools and API’s for GPT creation, Hugging Face, LangChain, Large Language Model’s, Generative AI or similar tools.
- Development and deployment in independent cloud and on-premise environments including requirements gathering, design, and deployment of reporting solutions.
- Ethical and responsible use of AI in line with ORNL policy and guidelines.
- Collaboration with other DOE labs and private sector companies to understand and mature ORNL capabilities.

- Due to the security clearance requirements of this position, US citizenship is required for consideration.
- A BS in computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, business analytics management, applied statistical analytics, or a related field of study and eight (8) to twelve (12) years of aligned experience, with the last 2-3 three years in the AI/ML arena, is required for consideration An overall combination of equivalent experience may be considered.

- Masters’ holders should have seven (7) to ten (10) years of aligned experience with the last 2-3 three years in the AI/ML arena.

- PhD holders should have four (4) to six (6) years of and aligned experinece with the last 2-3 three years in the AI/ML arena.
- Active DOE Q clearance.
- 2-3 years’ experience leading group projects and programs with current AI/ML, Data Science or Data Analytic tools including using and teaching low code-no code skills to others.

- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
