Optum AI team is looking for an AI/ML Scientist to lead the development and deployment of advanced machine learning models that address complex healthcare challenges, aiming to enhance patient care, optimize healthcare operations, and advance the strategic objectives of UnitedHealth Group.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in Deep Learning, NLP, and multimodal modeling
- Proven proficiency in Python programming and frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Strong mathematical background, particularly in optimization, stochastic algorithms, and numerical methods
- Experience with cutting-edge algorithms including GNNs, GANs, Transformers, SSMs, and LLMs
- In-depth knowledge of Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), with a focus on optimization techniques
Responsibilities
- Lead and execute end-to-end machine learning projects involving high ambiguity, scale, and complexity
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models, collaborating closely with software engineering teams for productionization
- Analyze healthcare data sets to extract insights and develop predictive models that add business value
- Conduct A/B testing, statistical analysis, and data gathering to validate model performance
- Establish scalable, automated processes for data analysis, model validation, and deployment
- Research and implement innovative AI/ML approaches to solve healthcare challenges
- Proactively pursue intellectual property opportunities and contribute to the company's AI research portfolio
Other
- PhD in AI, computer science, data science, applied mathematics, or a related technical field
- 10+ years of industry or academic experience in machine learning or related disciplines
- 5+ years of experience developing models for business applications
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing technical teams
- Mentor junior team members and assist in recruiting top AI/ML talent
