Internet2 seeks an AI Specialist to advance cyberinfrastructure capabilities at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) by developing AI-focused curriculum, consulting on faculty research, and supporting data-driven science dissemination.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with Python, Jupyter, GitHub, and common AI/ML libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, Hugging Face, PyTorch, etc.).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with AI/ML workflows in teaching or research settings.
  • Familiarity with deploying AI/ML workflows on the public cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.).
  • Familiarity with NSF-supported infrastructure or CI platforms (ACCESS, Jetstream2, Anvil, etc.).
  • Track record of supporting research publication, grants, or academic writing

Responsibilities

  • Designing modular, reusable AI/ML instructional materials using tools such as Jupyter notebooks, GitHub and lab guides tailored to the needs of faculty and students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs).
  • Develop AI-focused curriculum across domains including earth science, health equity, digital humanities, and social sciences, ensuring alignment with MS-CC’s broader research priorities.
  • Providing technical consulting on integrating AI and machine learning into both research workflows and classroom instruction.
  • Support applied research projects through tool selection, data strategies, and cloud platform use, while identifying scalable solutions to shared institutional challenges.
  • Assisting with publication preparation, reviewing computational methodologies, and contributing to the development of grant proposals involving AI technologies.
  • Supporting and facilitating MS-CC-led workshops—both virtual and in-person—attending national conferences, and synthesizing lessons learned to enhance future programming.
  • Contribute to program evaluation, help shape responsible AI policy and training guidelines, and participate in outreach activities with campus partners, reinforcing MS-CC’s community engagement efforts.

Other

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Education Technology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience designing instructional content and facilitating workshops or courses.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to travel 25-30% of the time
  • Experience working directly with HBCUs, Tribal Colleges and Universities, or smaller institutions.
  • Background in educational evaluation, Universal Design for Learning, or train-the-trainer programs.
