Booz Allen needs an AI Research Scientist to redefine what's possible when research meets application, scaling high-impact R&D into tangible defense technology that supports critical missions, including for the U.S. Air Force. The goal is to invent, refine, and operationalize next-generation algorithms that push the limits of AI performance in contested and constrained environments, transitioning theory into fielded capabilities and production-grade systems that impact national security outcomes.
Requirements
- Experience conducting original research in AI, machine learning, applied mathematics, optimization, or algorithm design
- Experience publishing peer-reviewed research or applying novel AI or mathematical techniques in real-world, high-stakes systems
- Knowledge of advanced theoretical frameworks such as statistical learning theory, control theory, high-dimensional geometry, or Bayesian inference
- Ability to translate theoretical models into performant, deployable prototypes using tools such as Python, PyTorch, or JAX
- Experience transitioning theoretical work into deployed systems or high Technology Readiness Level (TRL) prototypes
- Experience with secure computing environments or deploying AI in contested or edge settings
Responsibilities

- Collaborate with a small, elite team of analysts, defense mission experts, and engineers to transition theory into fielded capabilities.
- Bring emerging academic ideas into production-grade systems.
- Conduct original research in AI, machine learning, applied mathematics, optimization, or algorithm design.
- Publish peer-reviewed research or applying novel AI or mathematical techniques in real-world, high-stakes systems.
- Translate theoretical models into performant, deployable prototypes using tools such as Python, PyTorch, or JAX.

- Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance
- Doctorate degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or Physics
- Experience as a postdoctoral fellow, assistant professor, or research scientist at a top-tier institution
- TS/SCI clearance
