The University of Oregon's Information Services division is seeking an experienced AI focused Application Developer to lead the integration and implementation of AI-powered solutions across campus using existing AI models and services.

Requirements

  • Experience with AI services and APIs
  • Software development skills, particularly in languages commonly used for AI integration (e.g., Python, JavaScript)
  • Familiarity with building contexts and deploying large language models and their applications
  • Ability to develop end-to-end applications that incorporate AI capabilities
  • Experience with AI cloud services, particularly in AI/ML (e.g., Amazon Bedrock, SageMaker, Azure platforms)
  • Experience with containerization and microservices architectures
  • Knowledge of prompt engineering, building model context, and effective use of LLMs

Responsibilities

  • Lead the integration and implementation of AI-powered solutions across campus using existing AI models and services
  • Provide technical leadership on the development of AI Solutions; new and improved campus AI IT services; innovative approaches to solving research, curricular, and instructional needs; and efficiencies to streamline operations and create capacity for higher value work
  • Develop the technical vision, design scalable and secure solutions, lead prototypes and pilots, and support the transition to operations
  • Participate in strategic planning including goals and objectives for the CX/AI Team that support the University’s goals for student success, administrative process improvement, and research and teaching
  • Develop, implement, and assess performance of short and long-term goals, objectives, and roadmaps, ensuring alignment with university and IS strategic needs, initiatives, and plans
  • Collaborate with major constituencies including researchers, faculty, staff, senior management, academic and non-academic administrators, managers, supervisors, and community members
  • Foster and maintain relationships nationally across higher ed to facilitate collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation

Other

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or equivalent years of education and experience
  • Ability to work effectively with researchers, faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to audiences with a wide range of technical skills
  • Strong customer service orientation with attention to detail
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation
  • Ability to prioritize and communicate effectively while meeting deadlines and completing projects
