Apple is looking to solve the problem of applying machine learning and AI to various fields and innovating revolutionary products and experiences, and is seeking domain experts to understand machine learning and apply their expertise in ML settings

Requirements

  • Proficiency in a programming language such as Python, Objective-C, C++, Swift, and/or R
  • Experience completing a moderate-sized software project
  • Academic, research, or industry experience in one of the following: Information Extraction, Distributed Systems, Large Language Models / Generative AI, or Search and Information Retrieval
  • Experience with machine learning and AI
  • Experience with data annotation / labeling
  • Experience with demand forecasting, capacity modeling scenarios, analyst utilization optimization, headcount planning, data products, metrics reporting, ad hoc analysis, and modeling & experimentation
  • Experience with developing and building agent-based workflows

Responsibilities

  • Developing and building agent-based workflows using LLMs to optimize internal processes
  • Improving automation
  • Working on high-impact projects
  • Publishing in premier academic conferences
  • Partnering with Apple teams across hardware, software, and services
  • Attending ML and AI courses
  • Collaborating with fellow residents

Other

  • Graduate degree in a STEM field or equivalent industry experience in software engineering
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) July 13, 2026 - July 9, 2027
  • Currently enrolled in a degree program must graduate before this program commences on July 13, 2026
  • Demonstrated ability to connect and collaborate with others
  • Ability to submit a cover letter explaining research interests and how they apply to the specific Residency position
