Requirements

  • Proficiency in a programming language such as Python, Objective-C, C++, Swift, and/or R
  • Experience completing a moderate-sized software project
  • Academic, research, or industry experience in one of the following: Computer vision, Large Language Models / Generative AI, Machine Learning & ML Research, Natural Language Processing/Speech/Conversational AI, Robotics, Reinforcement Learning, or Multimodal Large Language Models
  • Thesis, capstone project, internship, co-op, and/or proven experience in these fields qualifies
  • Experience with machine learning and AI-based products and experiences
  • Familiarity with SFT and RL techniques
  • Experience with GRPO

Responsibilities

  • Doing high-quality research on post-training multi-modal large language models using SFT and RL techniques
  • Using GRPO, etc. to enable rich agentic experiences on Apple devices
  • Reinforcement learning for general tool-use
  • Building/enhancing planning & reasoning capabilities in LLMs
  • Building/enhancing multimodal large language models for computer use
  • Building product prototypes using the models we develop
  • Collaborating with fellow residents and Apple teams across hardware, software, and services

Other

  • Demonstrated ability to connect and collaborate with others
  • Graduate degree in a STEM field or equivalent industry experience in software engineering
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) July 13, 2026 - July 9, 2027
  • Currently enrolled in a degree program must graduate before this program commences on July 13, 2026
