The Department of Aviation requires an experienced electrical engineer to provide direction, coordination, and leadership for design staff on various airport projects, ensuring compliance with engineering principles, department standards, and contract requirements. This role will also support the Capital Improvement Program, manage resources for planning, design, and construction, and oversee design reviews and tenant projects.

Requirements

  • Broad knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of electrical engineering including knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars, contracting procedures and documents, and all applicable laws, ordinances, policies, standards, and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the job.
  • Proficiency with basic computer and software products.
  • Good organizational, management, and technical skills. For example, the ability to make required engineering and statistical calculations and the ability to read, write, and understand construction drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and electrical design software.
  • Use of review management software required.

Responsibilities

  • Review of construction documents and related design tasks prepared by others, including on-call consultants, tenants, and local jurisdictions adjacent to the airport for compliance with engineering principles, department standards, contract requirements, and specifications.
  • Supervision and review of in-house design.
  • Developing scopes and budgets for design task orders.
  • Provide input and direction for the development of Electrical design standards, technical specifications, and details.
  • Coordination with Contracts staff and Dept. of Procurement officials in preparation of bidding documents.
  • Design Management, in coordination with PM staff, when on-call consultants are used for design work or survey.
  • Reviews shop drawings, requests for information, and submittments with construction management software and various other construction administration activities including site visits.

Other

  • Reports to the Assistant Director of Engineering.
  • Provides electrical engineering direction, inter-disciplinary coordination and leadership to the design staff in execution of Department of Aviation projects.
  • Provides support to the Capital Improvement Program through design reviews and coordination with related projects.
  • Provides support and coordination to Construction Managers and Project Managers when requested.
  • Manages and organizes resources to accomplish specific task assignments in the areas of planning, project and facility management, design and design management, and construction management.
