NRG is looking to solve problems related to energy and home services by propelling the next generation of leaders and creating a smarter, cleaner, and more connected future. This specific role aims to build a strong foundation in commercial analytics through hands-on training and exposure to various business areas, focusing on integrated retail/generation portfolio optimization, renewable generation analysis, asset management support, and North American power and natural gas market fundamentals.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Experience with data management and analytical tools (Access, VBA, Python, Power BI, SQL/Oracle/Databricks DB, or Matlab) a strong plus
  • Experience with asset dispatch modeling, system cost dispatch modeling, or related production cost modeling platforms (such as PLEXOS, PROMOD, or similar) is a strong plus
  • Experience with AI/ML programming and advanced statistical analytics techniques is a strong plus
  • Excellent analytical and modeling skills; detail oriented and capable of producing accurate, well-supported work products

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Trade Desks, Retail Sales, Origination, Asset Development, Asset Management, and Regulatory to create, disseminate, and communicate fundamental market analysis (e.g., white papers, briefs, presentations)
  • Support Asset Management and Plant Operations Teams on economic analysis, commercial and risk assessments, and optimization strategies for the existing asset portfolio
  • Model energy assets and complex transactions, including power generation, tolling agreements, load following/full requirements contracts, hedging strategies with products associated with existing assets, asset acquisitions, renewable energy procurement, storage options, fuel transportation, and long-term fixed price energy purchases/sales by utilizing a variety of internal and external valuation models
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance analytical tools and valuation models that are flexible and adaptable – enabling efficient transaction analysis, effective cross-team communication, transparency of work product, and ease of use

Other

  • Bachelor’s Degree in quantitative oriented discipline (e.g. Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Finance, etc), master’s degree a strong plus
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly, concisely, and effectively across broad and varied audiences
  • Self-starter with sound judgment
  • Capable of managing multiple high-priority tasks and delivering quality results within time constraints
  • Comfortable working in a results-driven, fast-paced, collaborative real-time team environment
