The AI for Good Lab at Microsoft is looking to hire an Applied Data Scientist to apply state of the art AI and data science approaches to real world challenges, such as food security, environmental concerns, disaster resiliency, and health, and to drive positive change.
Requirements
- 1+ year(s) of experience in working with Generative AI models and ML stacks
- Proficient foundation in statistics, probability, and applied machine learning techniques
- 1+ year(s) experience in analyzing data, deriving actionable insights to drive impactful engineering solutions.
- Experience working with data sources, statistical modeling, and machine learning
- Experience with cloud technology
- Experience with data visualization and storytelling
- Experience with state of the art AI and data science approaches
Responsibilities
- Identify and curate diverse data sources for use in artificial intelligence and statistical modeling.
- Rapidly prototypes and iterates on data driven solutions, prepares and analyzes data, builds and evaluates machine learning models, and applies statistical methods and experimentation to uncover insights, validate approaches, and support the implementation of models and pipelines to deliver measurable positive outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with AI research scientists, data analysts, data engineers, business and project stakeholders and incorporate their expertise into your analytical solutions.
- Partner with NGOs, academic institutions, and government agencies to help advance their efforts in addressing food security, environmental concerns, disaster resiliency, and health.
- Represents the Lab’s capabilities and technical findings to internal and external leadership audiences through compelling written, visual, and oral communication, translating complex data into clear narratives that inform and inspire positive change.

Other
- Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
- 1+ year(s) experience creating publications (e.g., patents, peer-reviewed academic papers).
- Experience working within an academic and/or NGO organization OR an history of volunteering.
- Travel 0-25%
- 4 days/week in-office
