Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an Assistant Global Trade Advisor for Export Controls to lead the Export Controls section of the Trade Center of Excellence (TCOE). This role is responsible for managing and overseeing trade compliance and regulatory activities related to classifying and exporting goods, ensuring a strong compliance position, and contributing to the execution of a long-term strategic roadmap for the Caterpillar trade function to enable commercial growth.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds. Ability to apply knowledge of risk management appropriately to diverse situations; strong knowledge of regulatory guidelines and their application and expertise in developing standardized compliant processes
  • Ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems; demonstrated ability to understand and digest complex scenarios to identify relevant issues and risks, propose solutions that take into consideration the relevant business objectives, and communicate those issues, risks, and solutions clearly and concisely
  • Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment; ability to act quickly and decisively
  • Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations
  • Knowledge of issues, procedures, tools and practices of importing and exporting; ability to import and export goods to and from international locations; experience implementing and managing an effective Global Trade Management system
  • Knowledge of functions, principles and techniques used in supply chain management; ability to develop and use strategies, practices and tools for controlling logistical processes

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute a strategic vision for export compliance and lead strategic projects and initiatives relating to the export controls function
  • Identify optimization and efficiency opportunities related to team and enterprise trade operations
  • Analyze trade activity reports and metrics pertaining to various elements of the export controls processes, and report out on trends, areas of concern and improvement opportunities
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external process partners, as appropriate, to facilitate compliant global trade
  • Lead and develop a multi-national team of export compliance professionals to create a sustainable competitive advantage

  • Educate and effect change in the organization in the export compliance space
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required
  • Typically requires 5 to 10 years related experience and 3 to 5 years of management experience
  • Experience or applicable knowledge of Caterpillar business operations
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of the company including senior leadership and staff, incorporating expert knowledge and simplifying complex topics
