The Department of Computer Science at the University of Houston is seeking to enhance its research capabilities in Multimodal Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) by hiring a tenure-track faculty member.

Requirements

  • Expertise in developing and applying AI techniques that integrate and reason over multiple modalities—including text, speech, vision, and sensor data.
  • Expertise in ways that advance natural language understanding, generation, and human-AI interaction.
  • Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and multimodal foundation models.
  • Experience with Cross-modal representation learning and alignment.
  • Experience with Multimodal dialogue systems and conversational agents.
  • Experience with Multimodal reasoning, summarization, and question answering.
  • Experience with Low-resource, fair, and explainable multimodal NLP.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct innovative and impactful research in Multimodal Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP).
  • Develop and apply AI techniques that integrate and reason over multiple modalities—including text, speech, vision, and sensor data.
  • Advance natural language understanding, generation, and human-AI interaction.
  • Establish a vigorous, externally funded research program.
  • Collaborate with existing research strengths in AI, computer vision, human-computer interaction, and data science.
  • Contribute to curriculum development in AI, NLP, and multimodal computing.
  • Teach courses in the department of Computer Science.

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field by the start date of September 1, 2026.
  • Exceptional record of publications.
  • Strong potential for securing competitive research funding.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
