Bowie State University Department of Computer Science is seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to fill a full-time, Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position to contribute to both undergraduate and graduate programs and establish an active research program.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • Strong research potential to build and sustain a robust research program that secures external funding and produces high-impact, peer-reviewed publications or comparable scholarly accomplishments.
  • A commitment to quality teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Evidence of effective teaching and mentoring.
  • Experience in securing external research funding.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and engage in interdisciplinary research.
  • Strong expertise in all areas of computer science, including one or more of the following areas: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science and Big Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Security, and Privacy, High-Performance Computing/Parallel and Distributed Computing, Software Engineering, Virtual Reality, Human-Computer Interaction

Responsibilities

  • Research: Establish and maintain an active research program that attracts external funding and leads to publications in high-quality journals and conferences indexed in prestigious citation databases.
  • Teaching: Assist in the education mission of the department, teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in computer science, advise and mentor students, and supervise research projects.
  • Service: The candidate is expected to provide academic service as requested by the Chair of the Department participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including curriculum development and outreach.

  • Anticipated completion of Ph.D. no later than June 2025 is acceptable.
