The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is seeking to hire an Assistant Professor in Data Science to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses, advise students, and maintain an active scholarship program.
Requirements
- Doctorate in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
- Proficiency in programming languages and tools, such as Python, R, SQL, data visualization, and version control
Responsibilities
- teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses (if applicable)
- advising students
- preparing for and holding classes
- maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment
- evaluating students’ work
- assessing student outcomes
- providing regular and substantive feedback on student work
Other
- ABD will be considered. The degree must be earned by the end of the first academic year.
- Evidence of the ability to be an effective instructor.
- Evidence of clear and effective communication skills.
- Experience of teaching in higher education.
- Evidence of ability to teach a broad range of courses in data science, statistics, and mathematics.
- Evidence of ability to sustain on-going research at a teaching university.
- Interest in collaborating with industry partners and students on applied projects.
