The Hartford is seeking an Assistant Vice President (AVP), Data Science to lead the Generative AI (GenAI) Data Science teams within the Personal Insurance organization to drive Customer Centric strategy, with focus areas being Price to Risk and Customer Experience.

Requirements

• Subject matter expertise in Generative AI, Agentic AI, and machine learning model development including Gradient Boosted Machines (GBMs), Computer Vision, Neural Networks and Generalized Linear Models (GLMs).
• Experience developing and deploying data science solutions within Personal Insurance.
• Experience in Loss Modeling, Underwriting and Sales Modeling is preferred.
• Proficiency in responsible AI practices, model governance, and regulatory compliance.
• Proven experience developing and deploying AI/ML solutions in multi-cloud environments, with a strong preference for Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly Vertex AI.
• Experience leading migration of AI/ML solutions across cloud platforms, especially transitioning workloads and models from AWS to GCP, ensuring performance optimization and cost efficiency.
• Deep understanding of data pipelines, model lifecycle management, and CI/CD pipelines across GCP and AWS ecosystems.

Responsibilities

• Lead 11 FTEs in the GenAI Data Science teams focused on Price to Risk and Customer Experience within Personal Insurance.
• Develop and execute a research agenda to embed AI and automation into pricing, underwriting, and customer interaction processes.
• Manage the development and enhancement of pricing and operational models, integrated into the scaled agile framework of the Personal Insurance business unit.
• Lead the development of Agentic AI and LLM-based solutions to optimize business processes and enhance decision-making transparency.
• Identify and integrate new data sources and AI tools to improve business outcomes and customer satisfaction.
• Collaborate with technology, data, and business partners to embed AI capabilities into end-user technology and business processes.
• Oversee end-to-end AI projects from problem formulation to deployment and monitoring, ensuring alignment with business goals.

Other

• Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred) in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Quantitative Economics, Computer Science or a related analytical field.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in Data Science or AI within Insurance or Financial Services.
• 8+ years of experience leading technical teams and managing complex analytic projects.
• 5+ years of experience developing and deploying data science solutions within Personal Insurance.
• Must be eligible to work in the US without company sponsorship.
