The Alliance for Safety and Justice aims to replace ineffective criminal justice system policies with what works to keep people safe, and the Associate Data Scientist will support scaling up community-based public safety infrastructure by managing qualitative and quantitative data processes.
Requirements
- Familiarity with basic concepts in statistics, including probability, statistical distributions, population sampling, analysis of variance
- Expertise in qualitative data collection methods and analysis (e.g. surveys, interviews, focus groups)
- Proficient in R and/or Python or similar statistical programming language
- Proficiency with relational databases, data validation, and query tools (e.g., SQL or similar)
- Proficient in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and relevant tools
Responsibilities
- Manage requests for data extraction and consolidation from public safety and public health data systems, including performing basic data analysis and generating summary statistics
- Assist in translating technical findings into clear, accessible reports for non-technical audiences
- Assist in developing data collection protocols for project evaluation and research
- Support the collection and spatial visualization of data for community asset mapping
- Maintain attention to detail in version control, documentation, and quality assurance
Other
- Master’s degree or higher in a social science, public health, public safety, urban studies, data science, public policy administration or related relevant fields — or equivalent applied experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate and communicate technical content into accessible formats for a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Occasional travel may be required
- Ability to communicate, receive and understand information through oral and written communication and proofread and check documents for accuracy
