dsm-firmenich is seeking a data scientist specialized in machine learning, genomics, and metabolic modeling to discover next-generation taste ingredients by leveraging protein and molecular AI and bioinformatics applied to taste receptor biology.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of additional academic (e.g. PhD studies) or industry work experience in ML/AI and bioinformatics applied to ingredients, or small molecule discovery, ideally in the chemosensory biology field.
- Strong skills in a combination of computational biology, genomics, retrobiosynthesis and metabolic modeling, including hands-on experience with development, deployment and benchmarking of ML/AI based tools applied to those problem fields.
- Proficiency in modern ML, python, good code management/version control such as Git, and working with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Use data science, ML/AI, genomics and metabolic modeling to drive a fast-paced ingredient discovery pipeline that generates maximum value for dsm-firmenich’s taste, texture and health segments.
- Develop and implement accurate bioinformatics- ML/AI based methods to explore biological diversity and the chemical space of natural products for discovery of natural taste ingredients.
- Use existing, and generate new, virtual libraries, to assist in silico screening of taste receptors.
- Contribute to the development and adoption of best practices and common computational tools by our global community of data scientists and scientists.
- Stay up to date on the latest advancements in computational biology, protein and molecular AI and modeling approaches.
- Apply modern software development and machine learning tools and practices in your daily work, including a high level of proficiency in python.
- Team-up with other data scientists and life science experts around the globe to drive project success
Other
- Master’s degree in Cheminformatics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
- Record of accomplishments demonstrating high drive and keen entrepreneurial innovation.
- Ideally, understanding of structural and receptor biology, especially chemosensory receptors, including GPCRs and ion channels.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to convey complex concepts to non-experts.
