Southwest Airlines is looking to hire Associate Software Engineers through their Direct College Hire Program to help design, code, test, document, and implement well-integrated application systems in accordance with customer requirements and standards, ensuring technology operates as expected in an agile environment with continuous deployment.

Requirements

  • Preferred knowledge and/or experience with AWS Fundamentals, including Lambda, Fargate, DynamoDB, and/or SQS
  • Preferred skills with Java Programming, including OOP principles and Java 8+ features (e.g. Streams, Lambda Expressions)
  • Preferred knowledge of Salesforce
  • Preferred JavaScript Programming experience
  • Preferred knowledge of Spring Boot for REST API development & dependency injection and configuration
  • Preferred knowledge of Kafka, including an understanding of producer-consumer model and message-driving architecture
  • Preferred experience with Git (clone, commit, push, pull, branching) and GitLab workflows

Responsibilities

  • designing, coding, testing, documenting, and implementing well-integrated application systems in accordance with Customer requirements and standards
  • These roles are involved in an agile environment with continuous deployment to ensure technology operates as expected.
  • Apply knowledge and skills of software development and testing to solve a range of problems
  • Troubleshoot program and system malfunctions to restore normal functioning across environments, including production
  • Evaluate code to ensure that it is valid, is properly structured, and meets industry standards
  • Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints
  • Contribute to Team-level technical discussion and decisions and identify opportunities for Team improvement

  • This role allows for voluntary remote work for the majority of your working time within the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with occasional on-site presence at our Corporate Campus for training, meetings, and business needs.
  • This role may also require limited travel for business purposes.
  • U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the U.S. required and no current or future work authorization sponsorship available.
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
