L3Harris is looking to solve the problem of developing and supporting Autonomous Undersea Vehicle (AUV) products, and is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to provide mechanical engineering support for new product development activities and factory support of existing AUV products.
Requirements
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Siemens NX and SolidWorks CAD programs.
- Exposure to analysis (FEA) tools, and/or experience in mechanical design or analysis of electronic systems, structures, and mechanisms.
- Familiarity with transducer instrumentation, data collection, and/or automation and software programming for numerical analysis.
- Ability to apply the principles of Structural Mechanics to predict internal stresses and structural instabilities.
- Ability to generate free body diagrams, determine reaction forces, calculate internal loads, and develop shear and moment diagrams.
- Working knowledge of one programming language.
Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical engineering support for both new product development activities and factory support of existing AUV products.
- Translate product requirements into mechanical specifications and test plans for development.
- Execute verification testing as defined by the mechanical specifications and test plans.
- Conduct design analysis and testing, both structural and thermal, to ensure designs meet customer requirements.
- Understand customer needs, generate test procedures, and execute the tests.
- Generate and/or process engineering change orders (ECOs) as required.
- Collaborate with mechanical designers on CAD models and part documentation using Siemens NX and SolidWorks CAD programs.
