The City of Charlotte's Aviation Department is seeking an Aviation Layer 1 Infrastructure Lead to manage, maintain, protect, and build technology infrastructure, specifically focusing on network devices, network maintenance, troubleshooting, system administration, network design, complex implementation projects, and training. The role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation and reliability of the city's network infrastructure, particularly within the airport environment.
Requirements
- Networking fundamentals
- Local and wide area network design and architecture
- Networking components such as routers, modems, switches, and servers
- Principles and practices of the design, installation, and maintenance of voice, data, and communications networks and applications
- Expert Quality of Service understanding and configuration, able to customize across all platforms to support Voice, Video, and/or selected applications:
- Intermediate to expert with 802.1q vlans and OSPF routing protocol
- Experience building, testing and troubleshooting fiber optic networks
Responsibilities
- Manages, maintains, protects, and builds technology infrastructure. Provides support and implements technology needs.
- Provides design, implements, and maintains wireless connectivity for users.
- Manages all Layer 1 cabling Infrastructure for the switch networks and virtual server environments.
- Monitors and responds to any network, VPN, or wireless issues across WAN/LAN. Resolves trouble tickets, responds to alerts for switches and wireless access points down, and replaces failed devices.
- Implements and manages monitoring and alerting solutions for WAN/LAN and wireless networks.
- Supports, configures, programs, upgrades, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs voice networks and system components, power supplies, peripherals, and software programs.
- Troubleshoots issues that occur after initial installation of data cabling (fiber/copper).
