Microsoft Security aspires to make the world a safer place for all by reshaping security and empowering users, customers, and developers with a security cloud that protects them with end-to-end, simplified solutions. The Microsoft Entra (Azure Active Directory) team is seeking a Back-End Software Engineer II to help build the identity services that power Microsoft's cloud ecosystem, including Azure, Microsoft 365, Xbox, and Windows, by designing and operating secure, scalable, and resilient authentication and authorization systems.

Requirements

  • coding in languages including, C, C++, C-Sharp, or Python
  • 2+ years of experience designing, developing, or maintaining secure software systems, with applied knowledge of authentication, data protection, access control, and secure coding practices
  • 2+ years of experience designing, building, and operating scalable, highly available cloud services or distributed systems on platforms such as Azure, AWS, GCP, or comparable cloud environments, with production ownership and CI/CD pipeline integration.
  • 2+ years of experience applying distributed systems concepts such as concurrency, conflict resolution, and consensus algorithms to build resilient and maintainable back-end architectures.
  • 2+ years of experience building systems with emphasis on reliability, durability, and operational efficiency, including experience with live site operations, incident response, and performance optimization.
  • 2+ years of experience programming in modern back-end languages such as C-Sharp, Java, Go, or Python.
  • coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C-Sharp, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.
  • Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Other

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.
  • Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
  • Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
