The Department of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University is seeking a Biostatistician 3 to lead and manage population health and health services projects, focusing on extramurally funded research to improve emergency care delivery, outcomes, and health equity.

Requirements

  • Proficient in at least two of R, SAS, SPSS, or STATA.
  • Skills in descriptive analysis, modeling of data, and graphic interfaces.
  • Demonstrated excellence in at least one area of expertise, which may include coordinating studies; statistical methodology such as missing data, survival analysis, statistical genetics, or informatics; statistical computing; database design (e.g., expertise in RedCAP or MySQL); graphical techniques (e.g., expertise in Illustrator).
  • Experience independently designing and analyzing scientific studies using administrative datasets (e.g.: Medicare or commercial claims) is required.
  • Experience leading independent analysis and interpretation of administrative claims datasets (e.g., Medicare, Optum, MarketScan). Other types of data include electronic health records, surveys, and administrative data.
  • The successful candidate will have expertise in data management, analysis of these types of data, and also experience with data extraction and database development.
  • Outstanding ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of research studies measuring emergency care access, quality, and outcomes, including peer-reviewed manuscripts and scientific presentations.
  • Overseeing the development of study protocols and data use agreements, including coordinating regulatory approval from the institutional review boards to assure regulatory compliance.
  • Identify appropriate statistical tools for analysis.
  • Implement data analysis through statistical programming.
  • Consult with investigators and others on appropriate statistical approaches to data analyses; assist in study design.
  • Develop oral and written dissemination of findings for conference presentations and peer-reviewed journal articles.
  • Implement studies to address statistical issue arising from collaborations.

Other

  • This will be a 2-year fixed-term position with a possibility for extension based on performance, the availability of funding and programmatic needs.
  • The following position will have the flexibility to be based anywhere in the U.S., for candidates who are willing to travel to the Stanford School of Medicine campus 5%-10% of the time, as needed.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and execute project plans, ensuring timely completion and delivery of project milestones.
  • Train and supervise staff, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research assistants.
  • Contribute to grant writing to support ongoing and future research initiatives.
