Google's Pixel team is looking to improve the image quality and performance of their mobile devices, specifically focusing on advanced 3A strategies and image signal processing pipelines for emerging Extended Reality (XR) platforms. They need to address complex image quality issues identified in mass production and customer escalations, and ensure optimal performance across various capture conditions and camera operations.
Requirements
- 5 years of experience in coding with a general purpose programming language (e.g. C/C++).
- 3 years of experience in image processing.
- 2 years of experience in camera tuning.
- Experience with 3A algorithms (Auto Exposure, Auto White Balance, Auto Focus) and core camera calibration concepts (e.g., lens shading, defect correction).
- Experience with imaging systems development (cameras or displays) and image processing.
- Experience with System-on-Chip (SoC) architectures and with camera subsystems on platforms like Qualcomm, Ambarella, or similar.
- Ability to debug complex, system-level issues that span hardware, firmware, and software.
Responsibilities
- Conduct tuning, development and deployment of advanced 3A strategies, ensure they meet rigorous image quality targets across various capture conditions.
- Act as the primary technical owner for diagnosing, debugging, and resolving complex 3A-related image quality issues identified during mass production (MP) testing and from in-market customer escalations.
- Collaborate with architecture and research teams to analyze, adapt, optimize, and deploy specialized Pixel imaging solutions onto novel hardware pipelines for emerging Extended Reality (XR) platforms.
- Develop and refine comprehensive image quality test plans and tuning methodologies (both objective and subjective) to validate algorithm performance for new sensor technologies and novel ISP pipelines.
- Design and validate 3A performance within complex camera operations, including multi-frame processing and videos.
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.
- Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
Other
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack.
- The US base salary range for this full-time position is $132,000-$189,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
