The University of Hawai'i is seeking a Web Developer to assist with designing and implementing front-end UIs for new and existing web applications and websites, incorporating usability concepts and ADA requirements.
Requirements
- Functional knowledge of web site and application design demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply principles, concepts, methodology and terminology.
- Functional knowledge and understanding of technology, systems, hardware and software associated with website and application design.
- Functional knowledge in web development standards and languages (i.e. HTML/CSS, PHP, JavaScript, or comparable).
- Knowledge of user interface and user experience design.
- Knowledge of coding practices necessary for developing web-based applications and websites; prototyping and iterative development techniques; and systems development methodology and techniques.
- Experience with source code control system, such as GitHub.
- Functional knowledge of web content management systems (i.e. Wordpress, Drupal, Cascade, or similar).
Responsibilities
- Assists with designing and implementing front end UIs for new and existing web applications and websites according to specifications while incorporating usability concepts and ADA requirements.
- Assists with programming, evaluation, and testing of web-based applications using HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and/or any other programming or scripting languages to meet project requirements.
- Assesses and evaluates the capabilities and limitations of new and upcoming programming or scripting languages.
- Provides project implementation and post-implementation support for web-based sites and applications developed by ITS.
- Assists with the design, implementation, and support of page templates for use in the ITS-supported content management system (CMS).
- Assists with training and creating documentation for CMS users.
- Keeps current on rapid developments and emerging technologies by researching articles in trade journals, periodicals, technical manuals, newsletters, etc. and by attending classes, conferences, presentations and self-directed study methods.
Other
- Possession of a baccalaureate educational degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, MIS or related field and 0 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for website and application design;
- Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
- Ability to work a variable work schedule and to work outside normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend, and/or holiday hours, as directed.
- Demonstrated ability to speak, read, comprehend, interpret, and write fluently in English.
