The University of Hawai'i at Hilo's Kipuka Native Hawaiian Student Center is looking to enhance student engagement and academic success for Native Hawaiian students by developing and implementing Hawaiian language and cultural curriculum as part of the Hoolana Program.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Hawaiian language.
  • Experience in developing Hawaiian cultural curriculum.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of UH Hilo programs and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • Fluency in Hawaiian language.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Hawaiian language and culturally grounded curriculum and supporting materials for Hoolana program events for staff and students.
  • Coordinate and provide cultural curriculum development support and training for Kipuka staff to carry out Hoolana program events.
  • Provide cultural expertise, knowledge, and guidance to ensure the cultural integrity of all Hoolana Program events and activities.
  • Assist in the development of the academic year master schedule for Hoolana engagement events, ensuring alignment with Native Hawaiian cultural values and educational goals.
  • Assist with the coordination and facilitation of culturally grounded workshops as part of the overall program curriculum.
  • Assist in the development of evaluation tools to assess student and staff learning and program outcomes.

Other

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field from an accredited university and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for developing Hawaiian cultural curriculum; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Previous experience working in a higher education institution.
  • Possession of a Master’s degree in any field from an accredited university
  • Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected begin January 2026 or soon thereafter. Not to exceed 89 days.
  • Employment is contingent on satisfying employment eligibility verification requirements of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986; reference checks of previous employers; and for certain positions, criminal history record checks.
