Texas A&M University Health Science Center is looking to improve child safety in Texas through a legal research project focused on policy analysis.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Jurisprudence or equivalent.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in Texas (preferred) or another state or be eligible for licensure (including JD and LLM graduates awaiting bar exam results or sitting for the July 2025 bar exam).
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Exceptional research and writing skills, including publications
  • health law-related interests in areas like health policy, health justice, bioethics, childcare regulation, and non-medical drivers of health, including familial stability and child safety

Responsibilities

  • Researches, develops, and disseminates legal and public policy analyses to inform and shape specific state policy.
  • Analyzes research data and summarizes results.
  • Contributes to research papers, articles, and publications.
  • Assist, mentors, and/or supervises law student researchers who are working on research related to the project.

  • This is a temporary position, with an expected duration from September 15, 2025, through January 31, 2026.
  • A post-graduate degree (e.g., MPH, LLM, MSW, MEd), healthcare degree (e.g., MD, BSN), or significant health-related work experience (in addition to the JD or, as appropriate, LLM) is preferred.
  • demonstrated interest in health and healthcare and/or child welfare
  • ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • One year of work or academic experience with pediatric or adolescent health, youth advocacy or education, childcare facilities, legal epidemiology, or related areas may be preferred.
