Toole Design Group in Philadelphia, PA is looking to hire an experienced and talented full-time Civil Engineering Manager to lead an existing team of talented and inspired engineers delivering roadway reconstruction, trail design, and multimodal projects that improve safety and the public realm throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Requirements

  • A Professional Engineering license in PA (other Mid-Atlantic states is a plus)
  • At least 10 years of engineering experience developing construction documents, preparing plans, specifications and estimates for bidding
  • At least 5 years serving in a project management role overseeing 5 or more complex projects through completion
  • A broad knowledge base in civil engineering, with specific experience in roadway (or highway) grading, drainage design, geometric design, 3D modeling and design of accessible public spaces
  • Experience obtaining transportation and local agency permit documents for bid/advertisement
  • General experience leading multidisciplinary teams, coordinating utility and right-of-way impacts, street lighting, traffic signal, and landscape/hardscape layout
  • Proficiency in Computer Automated Design (CADD)

Responsibilities

  • independently pursuing and managing projects from kick-off to construction
  • lead business development and project pursuits
  • assemble teams, and prepare proposals
  • manage our existing team of experienced engineers
  • brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects
  • lead, manage, design, and implement streetscape and site development projects
  • managing conversations between disciplines, managing client relationships, and delivering projects from concept to construction

Other

  • A desire to manage, mentor and inspire staff
  • Interest in multimodal and active transportation design
  • General knowledge of project performance metrics and strategies for monitoring them
  • Experience managing engineering projects in the State of Pennsylvania is a plus
  • Experience preparing proposals and scope/fees
  • Experience in business development including networking with colleagues and clients at public events, industry organizations (e.g. ITE, ASHE, or ASCE), and agency organized events
  • You have a strong desire to build and lead your own team
  • You have strong leadership skills and enjoy participating in multi-disciplinary teams
  • You want to manage a civil engineering team implementing creative roadway design solutions for cities, counties, and state DOTs
  • You enjoy generating and evaluating engineering solutions that can be constructed and maintained
  • You are passionate about sustainability and the opportunity to work on challenging multimodal projects that make communities more livable
  • You enjoy producing high-quality work products and seeing your projects get built
  • You are experienced at delivering high quality projects on time and on-budget
  • You have strong communication skills, whether written, verbal, or graphical
  • You can build relationships, bring enthusiasm to exciting projects, and are organized and detail oriented with strong problem solving skills
  • You want to actively participate in the strategic planning for the success of the civil engineering practice for the Philadelphia office and the Mid-Atlantic region
  • You have experience in Civil - Roadway - Highway design and are interested in moving into active transportation and Complete Streets Design
