Utah Valley University is seeking a Data Engineer to advance its Business Intelligence and Data Platform initiatives by designing and implementing scalable, secure, and governed solutions for seamless data movement across various systems, enabling advanced analytics and supporting the institution's need for timely, reliable, and accessible information.

Requirements

  • Experience with a language used to build APIs, including Java, .NET Core, Node, or Python.
  • Knowledge of Microservices Architecture and API Strategy development.
  • Knowledge of PaaS infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of data processing frameworks and databases (e.g., Oracle, TSQL, SQL, Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse).
  • Proven skills in scalable API Design & Development.
  • Experienced with implementing solutions using Java & J2EE technologies, REST, and Web Services.
  • Experience with generating complex queries using SQL.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, implement, and maintain data processing pipelines for the movement of data between various source systems/processes and the UVU Data Lake.
  • Develop robust and scalable solutions that transform data into a useful format for analysis, enhance data flow, and enable end users to consume and analyze data faster and easier.
  • Design API connections, write complex SQL queries to support integration and analytics needs.
  • Lead in the development, design, and maintenance of data marts, data cubes, queries, and data warehouses.
  • Design and build scalable data integration ELT/ETL pipelines using SQL, Python, Synapse, Oracle Data Integrator, Fivetran, Informatica, Pentaho Data Integrator, or other similar tools.
  • Own API Management space at UVU.
  • Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, data analysts, product teams, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements to technical specifications and coded data pipelines.

Other

  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, plus four years of experience related to the summary of duties, OR a combination of education and relevant work experience totaling eight years.
  • Experience with a team-oriented, collaborative environment with limited supervision.
  • Knowledge of data privacy practices and laws.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Skilled at agile project management.
