ERT is seeking a Cloud Software Engineer to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS) in migrating and operating AWIPS applications in the cloud.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience designing, coding, executing, testing and supporting cloud solutions.
- Strong knowledge of cloud computing technologies and current computing trends.
- Knowledge of, and ability to setup/configure and work within industry-standard code management and repository tools and methods.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, write Dockerfiles or equivalent.
- Support IaC modules through parameterization and service configurations.
- Experience with geospatial databases and data structures and formats used in earth science applications
- Experience with SAFe or other enterprise agile framework
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement software/solutions for migration to and operation of AWIPS applications hosted in the cloud.
- Design, implement and maintain microservices in Java (or relevant languages), containerized in Kubernetes or other container orchestration system.
- Develop and enhance software solutions in data management (ingest, processing, dissemination) and application migration into the cloud.
- Evaluate cloud applications, infrastructure, and software to promote optimization, scalability, and cost savings optimized for cloud operations.
- Redevelop/adapt software for cloud native data ingress/egress, storage, and compute strategies.
- Write unit, integration and load test for developed applications.
- Analyze logs and metrics for performance issues, errors and compliance reporting.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex cloud reports to management and development partners.
- Must be a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident and able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to access applicable government facilities/systems.
- Understanding of NOAA/NWS operations and AWIPS system
- Experience working in physical science field
- This position supports work at NOAA's Silver Spring and College Park, MD facilities and may be performed remotely with 0-25% travel.
