Genworth is looking to support its top strategic priorities by hiring an Application Developer, Cobol to work within the service operations team for the CLOAS application. This role will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the CLOAS application, maintaining system health, and implementing changes to support the business. The CLOAS application is a core mainframe-based system for Long Term Care Policy Administration and is central to all policy processing.

Requirements

  • strong mainframe (COBOL, JCL, CICS, IMS) programming skills and production support experience preferably in insurance/finance domain.
  • Basic experience with SQL and data analysis.
  • IMS database experience in an MVS and CICS environment
  • Experience with modern mainframe development and testing tools
  • Knowledge of automated COBOL conversion tools
  • Knowledge of Assembler
  • Advanced SQL programming experience

Responsibilities

  • Support the Long Term Care policy administration system, by monitoring the system, resolving failures, job abends, policy related incidents, system defects, and by maintaining the interactions of the application with peripheral systems.
  • Analyze incidents raised by users to assist them with completing business activities, determine the impact of the issue and come up with solution proposals to formulate the right approach to solve the problem.
  • Design, Code, Document and Test the solution ensuring that it meets acceptance criteria, does not cause unintended impact and fits within the overall technical architecture.
  • Support your changes through the testing process, assist with test planning, defect resolution and technical system activities.
  • Implement the solution following the established change control process
  • Create reports from the system data to perform data analysis, support business activities, and fulfil regulatory and audit requirements including SOX audits.
  • Provide technical advice on complex programming.

  • 4-year college degree and relevant equivalent experience
  • Excellent analytical skills and a detail-oriented mindset, with ability to understand complex business logic, analyze the system and data, to identify changes needed, and understand impact of changes on the various products and system functionalities.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team environment on a complex mainframe system and having good problem-solving skills and a results-oriented outlook.
  • Good communication skills ability to work with various stakeholders, managing concurrent deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, and willingness to adapt to new technologies and ways of working
