Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support our Commercial Operations department within our Generation Organization at our T3-Denver Headquarters in the RiNo neighborhood in Denver, CO. Commercial Operations is a dynamic business unit responsible for optimizing Xcel Energy’s electric generation resource portfolio and delivering cost-effective power and gas to customers through fuel purchasing and planning, market coordination, and forecasting and analytics.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, or similar.
  • Completed 2 years of undergraduate coursework (as of May 2026), including classes in advanced mathematics, coding or programming language, and/or statistics.
  • Experience or Proficiency with MS Office and 365 tools

Responsibilities

  • Produce Plexos production forecast models, analyze outcomes, and present findings to all areas of Xcel Energy
  • Track the logistics, storage, reconciliation, and accounting of various solid fuels.
  • Analyze long-term natural gas deliverability options for planned resources.
  • Process large volumes of data into meaningful displays and dashboards under the guidance and tutelage of experienced data scientists
  • Schedule and deliver gas and electricity from source to demand centers.
  • Monitor the electric grid in real time to critically commit and dispatch generation resources; prepare PCI models to offer resources and bid load into organized markets.

  • Current student, Junior status (as of May 2026) or higher.
  • Able to commute to our corporate office in Denver, CO- Hybrid Schedule
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the spring (up to 20 hours a week).
  • 3.50 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher
