Steel Dynamics is looking for a Computer Engineering Intern to assist with the day-to-day troubleshooting of Level 2 automation issues, support HMI and visualization updates, and contribute to improvement projects within their Butler Flat Roll Division.
Requirements
- Basic understanding of programming languages and an ability to troubleshoot or modify software systems.
- Experience with Ignition or other HMI software.
- Experience with Ladder Logic
- Experience with Studio 5000
- Familiarity with Object Oriented Programming
- Familiarity with Python
Responsibilities
- Assist maintenance and operations with day-to-day troubleshooting of Level 2 automation issues and escalate when needed.
- Support HMI and visualization updates and develop simple dashboards or reports for production teams using Ignition.
- Help maintain software, database, and configuration backups and follow change control procedures.
- Coordinate with operators, electricians, mechanics, quality, and IT to plan and execute improvement tasks.
- Participate in planned outages and improvement projects by executing test plans and verifying system functionality.
Other
- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
- Strong interest in industrial process automation and system control.
- This internship will take place Summer 2026.
