Kentucky Utilities is looking for an intern to gain practical, hands-on experience in the utility industry, assisting with maintenance, repair, inspection, installation, and troubleshooting of power plant equipment.
Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in a technical field.
- Applicable degree fields include Engineering and Electronics Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Advanced Automation & Robotics Technology, or a related field.
- Be able to learn to make and read simple drawings and sketches.
- Prepare and take the Edison Electrical Institute (EEI) POSS/MASS test measuring job responsive aptitude, ability to retain knowledge, and problem solving skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance activities as required to maintain, repair, inspect, install, rebuild, construct, and troubleshoot various power plant equipment.
- Assist in startup and shut down of plant equipment including monitoring and operating plant and responding to events and emergencies.
- Assist in operating controls and devices for proper plant operation.
- Coordinate unit operation with Generation Dispatch and Transmission Operations as required.
- Learn the proper use of hand tools, power tools, hoist, drill presses, grinders, and other tools and equipment pertaining to the work.
- Assist employees in carrying out work assignments.
- Clean equipment undergoing repairs, handle and move material, supplies and equipment in connection with the work and work area.
