Caterpillar Inc. is looking for a Design Engineer to support the Small Track-Type Tractor (STTT) design team in Athens, GA. The role involves providing support to the assembly and fabrication lines, assisting with new product implementation and current product improvements, and resolving design and manufacturing issues to ensure product quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Requirements
- Designs components consisting of welded fabrications and sheet metal.
- Releases production drawings using CREO and Teamcenter (or equivalent).
- Mechanical design and detailing using Creo
- Releasing drawing packages using Teamcenter and Engineering Data System (EDS)
- Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
- Knowledge of design for manufacturability guidelines, methodologies, and use cases; ability to use this knowledge to optimize product designs and manufacturing operations.
- Utilizes basic DFM tools and technologies to implement DFM methodologies.
Responsibilities
- Daily monitoring of Athens STTT assembly line and welded fabrication line. Must be available to provide "front line" assistance to help resolve any product problem on the assembly line.
- Creating new designs and resolving issues regarding the manufacturing or building sequences. Ensuring design acceptance and manufacturing readiness.
- Participating in the adoption of new technologies and processes (automation, robotics, computer aided manufacturing software, etc.) to achieve greater efficiency, cost reduction and quality improvement.
- Planning and improving engineering procedures and operations to make the product or process more reliable, efficient and cost-effective.
- Collaborating with all functional areas, (marketing, purchasing, manufacturing, quality) to provide a design solution that meets the requirements of the customer and dealer network.
- Designs components consisting of welded fabrications and sheet metal.
- Releases production drawings using CREO and Teamcenter (or equivalent).
Other
- Requires a degree from an accredited Engineering curriculum.
- Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
- Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of technical problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
