Darden is seeking research assistants to support faculty research initiatives by cleaning, parsing, and documenting data, as well as extracting information from various sources.
Requirements
- Ability to read through multiple reports, mine public databases, and distill information into a database (excel spreadsheet or other formats).
- Familiarity with big datasets
- Experience with Python, Java, and/or SQL
- Experience with machine learning or large language models for research preferred.
Responsibilities
- Create data sets by researching publicly available information on companies or cities
- Assist with preparation and storage of large datasets
- Provide documentation on created datasets
- Pull data from reports, the web, and other sources
- Depending on position, work could include working with virtual machines and cloud platforms.
Other
- This position is ONLY open to UVA students.
- Hourly pay rate depends on level of education.
- Positions offers 10-20 hours/week.
- Position is remote, but student must physically reside in the United States.
- Very strong written and verbal communication
- Strong synthesis skills (reading and summarizing arguments)
- Strong attention to detail
- Able to work independently while balancing multiple projects
- Willing to attack a problem from different angles when the first approach does not work
- This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers.
- The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
