The School of Medicine MBU at VCU is looking to enhance its business intelligence (BI) initiatives and overall data management capabilities by hiring a Data Analyst. This role is crucial for improving operational efficiency, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring high data quality standards.
Requirements
- 2 years of proven experience using data analysis tools such as SQL, Python, R, or similar.
- Experience in systems and data analysis, requirements gathering and specification documentation.
- Experience with BI platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
- Experience working with database and data warehouse platforms such as SQL Server, Oracle, and Snowflake.
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
- Understanding of data governance frameworks and data quality standards.
- Basic knowledge of data engineering tools and practices.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed data analysis across business units to evaluate processes, identify trends, and uncover issues and opportunities.
- Apply statistical techniques and industry-standard tools (such as SQL, Excel) to interpret complex datasets and generate actionable insights.
- Perform ad-hoc analyses to support strategic decision-making and respond to real-time inquiries from business and technical teams.
- Develop customized reports by integrating data from multiple sources and writing advanced SQL queries.
- Support rigorous data profiling, validation, and cleansing processes, thereby upholding high standards of data quality and integrity.
- Monitor and report on data quality using automated tools and manual checks.
- Serve as the tester for all data development.

- Experience in technical writing and systems training.
- Create and maintain end-user training materials such as user guides, knowledge base articles, help videos, and tutorials.
- Provide support and education to data consumers to enable self-service capabilities.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
