The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education (DME) needs a Data Analyst to manage and analyze student-level, school-level, and neighborhood-level data for strategic planning and analytics.
Requirements
- working with and manipulating large databases, including merging databases, creating new data variables, reformatting data and ensuring data is both complete and valid.
- Thorough knowledge of analytical and statistical methods and techniques to select and apply appropriate measurement techniques.
- Skill in applying fact-finding analytical and problem-solving methods and techniques.
- Keeps abreast of current trends regarding geospatial and infographic analysis and presentation.
- Keeps informed of latest concepts, developments, approaches and solutions to best analyze and display data.
- Ensures adequate safeguards for confidentiality and security of data.
- Provides a data environment that ensures availability, reliability, maintainability, and recoverability of agency databases.
Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, and maintains a comprehensive data warehouse of student-level, school- level, and neighborhood-level data to be utilized by DME for analytics and strategic planning.
- Analyzes and defines data requirements and specifications; and designs, develops, implements, modifies, and maintains databases.
- Ensures the accuracy and accessibility of data sources.
- Analyzes and plans for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements.
- Participates in the development of alternative approaches to solving and developing strategies for database management and analytics from a broad base of professional, business, and public groups.
- Develops and maintains documents for the use and application of established data warehouse. and databases, as well as relevant technology tools.
- Responsible for data management and cleaning, which involves updating information, calculating new variables, and developing new data sets, as necessary.

- Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the CS-11 grade level in the District of Columbia government service, or equivalent public or private sector.
- Tour of Duty: Monday - Friday; 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (Hours may vary)
- Residency Requirement: Applicants claiming “Residency Preference” will be required to maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of employment.
