The NYC Health Department's Bureau of Hepatitis, HIV, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (BHHS) is seeking a Data Analyst to support enhanced surveillance for STI, conducting research and surveillance projects related to the control and prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV and sexually transmitted viral hepatitis.

Requirements

  • Experience analyzing different types of data (clinical, surveillance, survey, administrative)
  • Proven experience with conducting quantitative data analyses
  • Proficiency in SAS for data manipulation and analysis
  • Familiarity with SQL query writing language
  • Comfort with Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS and/or Tableau
  • Background in STI epidemiology

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement database queries.
  • Prepare datasets for epidemiologic and surveillance projects and analyses.
  • Analyze data and provide data interpretation for STI quality assurance, evaluation, program development, surveillance, and research.
  • Access and analyze large data sets housed outside the Bureau (e.g., Medicaid data, hospital discharge data).
  • Contribute to the development of comprehensive proposals, protocols and evaluation plans for select STI or cross-cutting STI-HIV-Hepatitis research, surveillance, and evaluation projects.
  • Contribute to narrative and data reporting to federal funders and internal leadership, in collaboration with other STI Program analysts.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.

Other

  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
  • New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
