The Legislative Budget Board (LBB) needs to collect, organize, and assess data related to the Texas criminal justice system and/or health and human service populations. This involves using statistical methods and software to analyze data sets, project program participation and costs, and present findings and recommendations to management and legislative committees. The goal is to inform policy and budget decisions with accurate and well-justified recommendations.
Requirements
- Use business tools successfully (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, customized applications, desktop pc, laptop/tablet, and smart phone).
- Use analytic software (i.e. Python, R, etc.) and relational databases to analyze data sets.
- Analyze, synthesize, and summarize quantitative and qualitative information.
- Identify alternatives and make recommendations supported with empirical evidence.
- Two years of progressively responsible full-time work experience in data collection, analysis, and error resolution is preferred.

- Prepare written reports that present and interpret data, identify alternatives, and make and justify recommendations.
- Evaluate the implications of proposed or adopted federal and/or state legislation, rules, or regulations and make applicable recommendations.
- Prepare fiscal and population impact estimates of recommendations and legislation.
- Research, evaluate, and refine projection methodologies.

- This work is primarily related to the state of Texas criminal justice system and/or health and human service populations.
- Present and explain findings and recommendations to LBB management, legislative committees, and others.
- Coordinate and collaborate with other LBB analysts on budget, performance, and revenue issues, as appropriate.
- Consult with LBB management to initiate studies, identify priorities, and define study scope, methodology, purpose, objectives, time frames, and resource requirements.

- Course-work or degree in public policy or administration, program evaluation, quantitative research, qualitative research, educational measurement/research, financial affairs, math, statistics, legal research, or a related field is preferred.
