U.S. News & World Report is seeking a Health Data Analyst to develop and refine methodologies for evaluating healthcare providers, specifically hospitals, using large healthcare datasets to generate reports for publication and influence public health decisions and healthcare quality assessments.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in managing and analyzing large datasets containing millions of records
  • Strong understanding of modeling and statistical principles relevant to healthcare quality measurement
  • High proficiency in Stata, Python, SAS, and/or R, with most coding performed in Stata
  • Experience reading and interpreting code written by others
  • Experience working with Medicare claims or other administrative healthcare data sets is preferred
  • Knowledge of multilevel modeling, confirmatory factor analysis, or structural equation modeling is advantageous
  • Subject matter expertise in clinical care areas is beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Write, review, and maintain code to manage and analyze large healthcare datasets, including Medicare claims and other sources
  • Collaborate with team members to develop, refine, and implement quality measures applicable in various healthcare settings
  • Combine multiple metrics into comprehensive evaluations of healthcare providers and facilities
  • Develop novel performance measures to improve healthcare quality assessments
  • Maintain and expand the existing portfolio of hospital and healthcare ratings
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of analytical processes and methodologies
  • Assist in preparing reports, publications, and presentations based on analytical findings

Other

  • Master’s degree or extensive professional experience in epidemiology, biostatistics, health services research, health economics, or a related quantitative field
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate complex methods and concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Research background in health equity, social determinants of health, or health disparities is a plus
  • Engage with healthcare stakeholders, including executives, researchers, and clinicians, to communicate findings and methodologies
