Google is looking to solve the problem of optimizing data centers for AI/ML workloads, encompassing network infrastructure, hardware accelerators, and overall system performance.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of core design and engineering principles, with emphasis on IT and data center infrastructure.
  • Experience with data center design and engineering.
  • Ability to deliver quality designs on time and provide ongoing support throughout the product life-cycle.
  • Ability to work on their own and proactively under minimal supervision.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies across the entire IT stack, from servers and storage to networking and cooling.
  • Experience with hardware accelerators and network infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and optimize data centers specifically tailored for AI/ML workloads, encompassing everything from the network infrastructure/rack layouts, selection/integration of hardware accelerators.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies across the entire IT stack, from servers and storage to networking and cooling.
  • Partner with internal teams to identify and resolve performance in production environments.
  • Analyze system-level metrics to pinpoint areas for improvement, and implement solutions that optimize resource utilization, reduce latency, and increase overall system throughput.
  • Build relationships with hardware partners to understand their technology roadmaps and product development cycles.
  • Provide feedback on our unique requirements and use cases, influencing the design of future generations of network equipment, server racks, and accelerators.
  • Ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).

Other

  • Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Systems Engineering. or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in data center design and engineering.
  • Ability to work on their own and proactively under minimal supervision.
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians.
