Norfolk Southern Corp. is seeking a Data Products Intern to gain hands-on experience in modern data engineering, governance, and analytics enablement, contributing to projects that improve operational efficiency and decision-making across the enterprise.
Requirements
- Familiarity with SQL and at least one programming language (Python preferred).
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and data tools (Databricks, Power BI, Collibra) is a plus.
- Learn modern practices using Databricks and Spark.
- Understand federated governance and KPI certification workflows.
- Gain experience building semantic models and certified datasets for enterprise BI.
- Learn how to define requirements, write PRDs, and measure adoption and cost telemetry.
- Participate in sprint planning, grooming, and retrospectives.
Responsibilities
- Assist in designing and testing ETL pipelines in Databricks (AWS) and contribute to silver/gold layer transformations.
- Support Power BI development, including workspace setup, dataset optimization, and role-based security (RLS).
- Participate in data governance activities, such as lineage documentation, certification workflows, and metadata updates in Collibra.
- Collaborate on analytics projects, including KPI analysis, dashboard enhancements, and ad-hoc operational insights.
- Contribute to data quality monitoring and observability initiatives (freshness, schema drift, volume checks).
- Document processes, create user guides, and assist with intake forms for new data requests.

- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
