The Virginia Tech Department of Athletics is looking to advance data-informed decision-making across multiple areas of the athletics department, including ticketing, marketing, performance evaluation, and strategic planning by leveraging advanced analytical tools to generate actionable insights that drive operational efficiency, revenue growth, and competitive excellence.

Requirements

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, DOMO)
  • Advanced proficiency with Python, R, or a related language
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems, CRM tools, and revenue optimization models
  • Experience conducting statistical evaluations for team or player performance
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Experience working with data analytics, business intelligence, or sport performance analysis

Responsibilities

  • Leverages advanced analytical tools to generate actionable insights that drive operational efficiency, revenue growth, and competitive excellence
  • Collaborate across departments, supporting both business and on-field performance initiatives while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and integrity in data management and reporting
  • Manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and communicate complex findings clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Conduct statistical evaluations for team or player performance
  • Work collaboratively across teams in a fast-paced, results-driven environment
  • Generate insights to drive operational efficiency, revenue growth, and competitive excellence
  • Support both business and on-field performance initiatives

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and communicate complex findings clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams in a fast-paced, results-driven environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, Business, Sports Management, or a related field (Preferred)
  • Leadership or supervisory experience in mentoring student interns or part-time staff (Preferred)
  • Must have a criminal conviction check
  • Must be able to work up to 29 hours per week
