Mercor is looking to push the boundaries of AI reasoning by training large language models to tackle Olympiad-level problems better than the world’s top competitors
Requirements
- Expertise across algebra, geometry, combinatorics, and number theory
- Ability to clearly articulate complex reasoning in written form
- Rigorous attention to detail in verifying solutions
- Independent, reliable, and disciplined work style
Responsibilities
- Create original Olympiad-level math problems to challenge frontier AI models
- Evaluate and dissect AI-generated solutions, identifying strengths and pinpointing weaknesses
- Provide expert insights and commentary that directly shape the next generation of reasoning systems
- Design novel, advanced Olympiad-style mathematics problems
- Closely review, test, and evaluate AI-generated solutions for correctness and clarity
- Identify logical flaws, incomplete reasoning, or insufficiently-rigorous proofs
- Provide structured feedback and clear, concise, and correct solutions
Other
- Medalist (Gold, Silver, or Bronze) in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) or an equivalent international competition within the past 5 years
- English proficiency required
- Independent contractor arrangement through Mercor
- Expected commitment: 20 hours/week minimum; up to 40 hours/week available
- Approximate project length: ~10 weeks, with extension potential
