The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking to fill the Data Scientist position to model data, make predictions, and allow the organization to make decisions based on mathematical analysis of the existing data warehouse containing over 800 structured data tables and many terabytes of data.
Requirements
- Programming knowledge in Structured Query Language (SQL), Python, R, and Scala
- Business intelligence tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, machine learning, and artificial intelligence
- Defining Business Intelligence (BI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) models and algorithms
- Data Management and Data Governance as defined in the Data Management Body Of Knowledge (DMBOK)
- Microsoft and computer programming language
- Systems and data processing policies
- Advanced mathematics and statistics
- Big data technologies such as Hadoop and Spark
- Common data science toolkits
- Perform exploratory data analysis
- Quickly learn and develop in new programming languages
Responsibilities
- Develops prototypes, proofs of concept, algorithms, predictive models, and custom analysis
- Develops customized algorithms to solve analytical problems using available data sets
- Collects and analyzes statistical information from multiple sources to spot trends and to gain maximum insight into the data to make recommendations based on those insights
- Designs and conducts studies and experiments to gain business insights into diverse enterprise data sets
- Monitors the implementation of the IT strategic plan to ensure alignment
- Collaborates with database engineers, data architects, data analysts and other scientists to develop, refine, and scale data management and analytics procedures, systems, workflows and best practices
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
Other
- Oversees, defines and monitors critical path activities and resolves issues/escalates issues as needed
- Works with the IT Executive management team to develop the IT Strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the department's strategic goals and establishment of policies

- Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
- Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training.
- An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance
- All employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.
- All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
