The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Department of Ophthalmology, is seeking a Data Scientist to develop novel deep learning algorithms for analyzing medical imaging data to answer clinically impactful questions, bridging the gap between machine learning research and clinical practice.

Requirements

  • Experience in coding using python, as well as using machine learning libraries such as sklearn, opencv, pytorch (or tensorflow).
  • Experience in working with medical images such as fundoscopy images, OCT’s, MRI's, digital histopathology are desired.
  • Experience in using containerization software such as Docker.
  • Master’s degree in computer science, data science, biomedical engineering, imaging or related discipline such as mathematics, engineering or physics
  • Master’s or PhD degree in computer science, data science, biomedical engineering, imaging or related discipline such as mathematics, engineering or physics
  • Proven track record of publications in medical informatics journals and conferences (medical imaging in Ophthalmology, preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Develop novel deep learning algorithms to analyze medical imaging data (e.g., ophthalmology, radiology and pathology) and answer clinically impactful questions.
  • Implement code to run experiments to explore the research questions, analyze results
  • Discuss with faculty and senior researchers to identify research questions, discuss results, analyze alternative routes to ensure progress
  • Conduct literature search prior to and throughout each research project to familiarize oneself with state of the art
  • Document work, including: documenting code, drafting manuscripts, prepare slideshow presentations for internal review and for conferences
  • Pursue theoretical projects on novel datasets
  • Collaborate with world-class clinicians at the University of Colorado and external collaborators

  • Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
