The Jean Golding Institute at the University of Bristol is seeking a Data Scientist with AI expertise to join its Research Engineering Team. The team provides technical support in data science, AI, and research software engineering to various research projects across the university.

Requirements

  • engineering AI solutions to problems (especially neural networks or large language models)
  • applying data science techniques (such as Bayesian or similar statistical modelling)
  • fluency in Python and/or R
  • demonstrable use of other programming languages for research and/or an interest in learning new languages
  • experience applying best practices in software engineering, such as version control, testing and documentation

Responsibilities

  • engineering AI solutions to problems (especially neural networks or large language models)
  • applying data science techniques (such as Bayesian or similar statistical modelling)
  • recommending and implementing technical solutions in areas outside of own expertise
  • communicating the advantages and disadvantages of various techniques/tools
  • embedding best practices in software engineering, such as version control, testing and documentation, within projects

Other

  • experience, preferably in a team environment
  • comfortable collaborating with researchers outside your own area of expertise
  • prepared to work on a wide range of projects, as dictated by the needs of researchers at the University
