The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) needs to design, implement, maintain, tune, and optimize all MTA databases to meet current and future software application requirements. This includes ensuring the integrity, performance, reliability, and recoverability of data for a wide variety of applications managed by the MTA's Information Technology department.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator including Design, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server on-prem and in the cloud.
  • Strong experience implementing High availability, Disaster recovery solutions.
  • Strong knowledge with all aspects of database administration including database installations, upgrades, migrations, backup and recovery, monitoring, performance and query tuning, database security, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge in Windows Server, SQL Server, Azure cloud platform including Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Storage account and Azure security.
  • Experience in data archival, table partitioning, monitoring system performance, database replication
  • Strong Knowledge of SQL.
  • Familiarity with SSIS, SSRS, SSAS.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of database technologies and resources to ensure that all MTA application and system availability targets are met.
  • Perform database administration tasks, including but not limited to defining data process flows, data modeling, data migrations, security, and fine tuning database performance.
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database software modules and applications.
  • Assist with the development of system backup schedules, verification testing, and all related documentation requirements.
  • Work with system administrators, network administrators, help desk staff, and other IT technical resources to coordinate database infrastructure requirements and analyze/troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Ensure all required system documentation and record keeping requirements associated with maintaining and controlling IT assets are completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with MTA policies and procedures and department requirements.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new database products and technologies.

  • Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams, technical manuals, and documentation such that supported equipment and software can be maintained with minimal training.
